Most of our big choices have been made, and planning is now mainly a case of following up errands behind the scenes. Our lovely rings are made. The groom and his party have been clad. The bridal party’s fabrics are at the dressmakers, being cut as I write this. Trade Me and other sources of craft and thrift (including the wonderful Felt pages) have yielded up small, fine, shiny things with which to decorate our extremities.
We have food and drink more-or-less sorted, and are making arrangements for our guests coming from overseas. The legendary cheeses have been ordered from Whitestone. Having achieved her goal of long hair in advance of her wedding coiff, Megan now complains about it weekly and wears it in a stern bun for ordinary purposes. It seems as if friends and family everywhere are working out, in the hope not of small bodies but smooth ones.
Planning is thus now a house of simmering pots, and our job to keep everything from going off the boil. This has not been the stressful process of legend so much as fun tasks to keep an eye on in the midst of busy work responsibilities. The early spring has been infused with the anticipation of our late-spring date. Not long now.
